Google Instant Will Take the Guess Work and Time Out of Search

Today Google announced their newest feature to revolutionize the way we search – Google Instant. With Google Instant searchers will begin receiving results as they are typing to help eliminate some of the guess work and save time.

At the core of Instantare things like predications, dynamic results, and scroll to search. Googlers now have the ability to scroll through suggestions with the down arrow and the page will update itself automatically. Also as you type, Instant will attempt to show you exactly what you are searching for in the results; users will also get a predication for the rest of their query (in a light grey text).

Vice President of Search Products and User Experience, Marissa Mayer, reports that with the new Google Instant users will save approximately 350 million hours of search time.

How to Engage Your Blog Readers with Cc:Everybody

A few weeks ago I wrote a review of a cool new service Cc:Everybody started by people behind Omgili (the service I have just mentioned recently in the post on choosing SEO hosting). Basically, the tool provides a way to take advantage of your useful email correspondence which would otherwise have got lost in your private inbox.

The best thing about the tool is that it's a huge playground. You can think of new and new awesome ways to use it. What I decided to do is to use it for an email Q&A session.

First, what did I do?

Setting Up Your Public Email Inbox

Registration is quick and easy. I registered and got my public email inbox. Now, once I have some useful email correspondence I would like to share with the world, all I need to do is to CC my @cceverybody.com email address. The post will go live and shared publicly after I confirm the action (via email or online).

Note also that all further back-and-forth correspondence with the same person on the same topic, gets automatically published in your public inbox in the same thread.

The second thing I did was adding my Twitter account – this way…

  • I can reply and publish any Tweeted questions as well (referencing my Twitter account)
  • I can automatically share my public correspondence on Twitter.

Besides publishing your email correspondence online, you can:

  • Comment on others' threads;
  • Receive comments from readers and moderate comments;
  • Pin (or stick) any conversation for it to always appear on top (just like in a regular forum).

Playing Further

Then I started playing. I posted an update to my personal blog inviting everyone to send their SEO-related questions to my @cceverybody.com email address. I got quite a few questions but replied to only most interesting ones (and to those I knew what to answer).

I got great feedback from Twitter followers and blog readers:

CCeverybody feedback

Then, I also used this plugin to update my post of new answers I publish (Read: Blogify Your Static Website for Google):

Embed CC:Everybody updates

To publish the RSS feed of your CC:Everybody mailbox updates, use this code to fetch and display your inbox atom:

http://cceverybody.com/username/atom,num_items:=100,random:=false,show_description:=true–>

For example, for me that was:

CC:Everybody atom

Note also, that not only my original post gets automatically updated of new answers in my public inbox. My Twitter followers get those updates also. And all I need to do is just forward my email to my @cceverybody.com email address.

In seconds my email Q&A session gets comments and retweets:

CC:Everybody comments

While I didn't have too much time to play as much as I would like to, I liked how the experiment went through. Imagine if you put some time, effort and creativity, you can come up with the powerful Q&A content, for example!

My personal conclusion is that Cc:Everybody is a great tool and I'd love to hear your thoughts!

How to Engage Your Blog Readers with Cc:Everybody

4 Steps to Engaging Readers with Your Content

The Internet is filled with blogs and websites that contain information about everything under the sun. You will likely be able to find what you are looking for no matter what your hobbies or interests are. While this wealth of information is good for readers, it can be a problem for content creators. It can be very easy for your content to get lost in the shuffle.

One of the key ways to make your content stand out from the pack is to engage your readers. You want your readers to feel like a part of the content you create. You want them to comment on what you write and to look forward to reading the new information you post. It does take some time and effort to create engaging content. However, if you put in the work, you will be rewarded with a large, loyal group of readers.

Give Readers What They Want

The first step to create engaging content is to know what readers are looking for and then give it to them. People are coming to your website because of the content you write for it. You need to have an understanding of what your readers are looking for.

You can find out what type of information your readers are especially interested in by tracking traffic with your website's analytical programs. You can find what parts of your sites visitors read most and continue to create meaningful content that is similar to it. Your content is guaranteed to stay relevant to your visitors by doing this.

You have to remain informed about the topics you write about. You don't want to be making up facts or stretching the truth. If you lose your credibility, it is very hard to get it back. In addition, you want to present your content in a way that is thought provoking. You want your content to spark conversation.

Help Your Readers

In most cases, people are visiting your site because they are looking for very specific information that contains answers to the questions they have. You want to be able to provide answers. This will help build trust between you and your readers and keep them coming back for more.

People are more likely to engage in content that is helpful to them. Frame your content so it is applicable to your readers' lives. Don't just post information. Make sure your readers understand that you are here to help.

Learn to Adapt

People who visit your site know what they want. You can create content that is useful, but it is inevitable that your visitors will want more or something slightly different.

You have to be open to change to truly engage your users. Let your visitors know that you are open to their suggestions. However, if you do this you have to make sure to follow through. You need to be able to adapt and mold your content around your readers' suggestions. This will allow your users to know that you take them seriously.

Be Personal

One of the keys to engaging your readers is to let them know that a real person is behind the content. It is easy to forget that actual people create the things you read on the Internet.

Usually you are just sitting at your computer by yourself when you browse the web. It can be a very impersonal experience. Let your readers know a little about yourself without going too far. Give them just enough information to put a face behind the content on your website.

Yahoo! Search Suggestions Now Localized

Yahoo! recently announced that they are making search more intuitive by taking a users location into consideration when suggesting search queries.

Yahoo! Search Assist helps you find what you need with fewer keystrokes by taking into account the location from which you’re searching.

This isn't exactly ground breaking news as all the other major search engines have had this functionality for some time now, but it's better late than never.

Search suggestions localized

This is great from a user experience, but I want to focus on how this can be used for PPC management. Using this new 'search suggest' functionality for keyword research and coverage can be very valuable to determine coverage on certain keyword themes. I admittedly don't use Yahoo! as my primary search engine, but I have found myself using this on Google from time to time with some success. It's important to ensure you have visibility on these suggested keywords if a searcher follows through to a selected term, even if selected accidently.

From a few test searches, it appears that Google's version of this feature is more accurate than Yahoo! but I recommend using the big three (Bing, Yahoo and Google) for this exercise. Using a few of your higher converting terms, simply start entering each one into the search box to see what the search engine recommends. You can then click on those terms to display the related results. Depending on the relevancy of those keywords, it might make sense to include those in your PPC campaigns.

Bamboo S7. Realmente atractivo y natural (concepto)

bamboo-phone-s7

Nokia E7. La próxima semana en Nokia World

nokia-e7
